What is Excel functions with examples

 Finding the values when we do not know the function name

          Sometimes we do not know the exact function name. For example, we assume that the function of square root is square root. But it is not a correct function. The correct name is Sqrt. That is why Excel provides all the function names in an icon from i.e.  fx. what we have to do is to click on a particular function and get answer.

 

            Let us calculate the exact function of square root in the excel sheet.

1. Type square root in J1 Cell.

2. Click on the Cell where you want answer.

3. Click on fx icon in the Standard Tool Bar. The Insert Function dialogue box appears.

4. Select All > SQRT in the Insert function box.

5. Click on OK. The Function Argument screen appears.

6. Type the number or cell name ( i.e. H2 ) in the box.

7. Click on OK.

8. See the result.

Note: In the same manner, you can calculate yourself the other functions like MAX, MIN.., COUNT, SUM etc. What you have to do is selected Max., Min., etc. in place of Average as calculated in the above sheet.

To Find out Another Function

           Let us calculate another function. This time we will calculate the highest marks of each student for all students.

1. Open or type the marks sheet of students.

2. Click on the cell where you want the height marks of the subjects.

3. Click on fx button. the Insert function screen appears.

4. Select All > MAX in the Insert function box.

5. Click on OK. The Function Argument screen appears.

6. Given the range values ( eg., G2 to G6 ) in the box.

7. Click on OK.

8. The answer appear.

PRACTICAL EXERCISE

          Type the following data in M.S Excel Sheet.

    Perform the following tasks.

1. Calculate the total marks of the above 5 students.
2. Calculate the medium marks of first student i.e., Anand.
3. Copy the median marks to the adjacent cells of other students.
4. Save the above work sheet as 'Student Marks'.
