What is the series function in Excel
Fill Series
Suppose we have to type 1 to 100 number in the excel sheet. It takes some time to type all the numbers from 1 to 100. Excel provides fill series to avoid inconvenience. In this option, if we type 1 and 2 numbers only. excel automatically types other number upto 100.
1. Click the first number in the excel sheet.
2. Type the first number in A1 cell.
3. Click on drop drop down box of Fill and the select the series. The series dialogue box appears.
4. Select columns.
5. Type '1' in step value box.
6. Type the last number (eg.10) in stop value.
7. Click on OK.
Getting week and month names automatically
Not only numbers, but also the names of weeks and months can also be obtained automatically in Excel.
1. Take a new worksheet and type 'Jan' in first cell.
2. Click on the cell (i.e., A1) with mouse cursor.
3. Drag the cursor to down cells. Consequently, the names of other months appears. In the same way, if we can type 'sun' in the first cell and drag to the below cells, the names of other days will appear.
Selecting Auto Format
The Auto Format option converts the excel sheet into different ready made designs. The readymade designs consists of beautiful shades, style etc., For this purpose Excel provides us with different types of readymade designs.
1. Select the required cells.
2. Click on Home > Format as Table. Consequently, the Auto Format dialog box appears.
3. Select the required design.
4. Click on OK.
5. Your data is converted into a beautiful readymade format.
Renaming a work sheet
When a new excel is created, it is named a Sheet-1 and so on. We can give a new name to the default name given by the computer.
1. Click on Home Tab > Format. A drop down box appears.
2. Select the Rename Sheet option.
3. The worksheet tab below the screen is selected.
4. Type the new name here.
